I’ve been seeing reviews of the new film Boyhood all over the web and in magazines. I get pulled into reading every single review because the concept is so impressive, real and refreshing – elements that I love about indie films.
Shot over a 12-year period, the film follows a boy’s life from age 6 to 18 years old. The film’s lead actor, Ellar Coltrane, plays his character at every different age, while actually that age. Boyhood allows you watch a family literally grow (i.e. awkward puberty) and evolve as well as the world around them (i.e. smoking in restaurants being legal to being illegal). The time and effort as well as the rave reviews on Ellar Coltrane put into this film is worth 2 hours of my time, I hope yours too.
Boyhood is in theaters now.
